Heavy Paintings “Heavy Paintings” is an independent research project in aesthetics of contemporary painting. The work investigates periodically produced art theories in simultaneous relations to the historical changes and the parallel practices within the trinity of artists, art and life.
On a journey to gain knowledge we often fall into black holes – into the voids of the unknown.
The series of “Emotion in Translation” is to visualize voidnesses, a ‘materialization practice’ in a stream of consciousness. The artist, who has dialectical self-awareness as a part of wholeness, starts self-reflexive journeys and departs from not knowing but perceptions and feelings, detecting outer reality.
The series of “Performative Journeys” suggests the aesthetics of contemporary paintings as performative by means of the phenomenon of an “act” within a performative time zone. The work denies the tenets of representation in painting, the use of allegory, story telling and subjectivities. It does not interpret reality and does not ask interpretive reading. It invites the viewers into the experiences of liminality. The artist sets a time zone in parallel to the mundane; the repetitive application of the paint on canvas leaves shaped/unshaped forms and stains. The liminal condition, which occurs within the artist’s inner dialogue and the encountering of the formations, directs the process of depiction. The time zone begins without any claim; knowledge is to be reduced to the unknown and the materials in use are to be reduced in simplest condition. The artist works in an awareness of wholeness, refuses any pre-determinant criteria and the use of any pre-familiar forms. The formations of the spontaneous stains and shapes, and the encountering dialogues from inner to outer reality determine continuity of repetitive acts, which flows into a space and time based content of a performativity. Painting in our time is to be understood as the left over of a very specific non-mundane art-production time zone. Painting to be produced in a performative time zone is to be understood as non-representation of the reality but the synonymy of the reality and the production itself.
